About the speaker:

Dr. Albert Ko Wing Yin is the first Hong Kong engineer recruited by Médecins Sans Frontières (無國界醫生) who has
been awarded as one of the Top Out- standing Young Persons 2007 by Junior Chamber International Hong Kong as well
as one of the awardees of the Third Hong Kong Humanity Award 2010. With a concern for the global medical issue and humanitarian relief work, Dr. Ko has served in several disaster relief projects, such as in the Indonesian Tsunami (2004) and Sichuan reconstruction project (2008). Dr. Ko has also facilitated relief projects in Sudan, Uzbekistan, Indonesia and Pakistan. Not only has Dr. Ko devoted himself to working in relief sites, he has also proactively advocated humanitarian missions and encouraged the participation of Hong Kong students in relief work. Besides managing his own profession in emergency humanitarian missions, Dr. Ko is also the co-founder of the Society for Harmonious development, a non-profit organization that aims to foster mainland college students as leader for the future development of society in China.

About the talk:
In this talk, Dr Albert Ko will share his experience in emergency relief operations as well as in longer term development projects. While the talk will discuss much of the challenges and difficulties in the developing world, it aims to explain to participants how easy we can all lend a helping hand to ease suffering. Towards the end of the talk, Dr Albert Ko will engage participants in searching for practical solutions for pressing problems.
